Sustainable Innovation Winners at Paper Industry Gold Awards

Swanline, a company that specialises in packaging design and printing solutions, has won the Sustainable Innovation Award for their EzeE-Comm Box at the CPI Paper Industry Gold Awards. The awards ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, 22nd March 2023, celebrated the achievements of the UK’s paper-based industries and attracted over 100 representatives from across the sector.

The EzeE-Comm Box is a new design that aims to improve the sustainability of packaging used for e-commerce. Unlike traditional returnable packaging, it does not require tapes, making it 100% recyclable. The innovative, sustainable pack named EzeE-comm© is revolutionary for the e-commerce sector. It can safely be returned whilst remaining tamper proof in both the outward and the return journeys. The unique locking mechanisms of the box facilitate a safe, pilfer-resistant solution that is 100% recyclable without contamination from polymer-based tapes or glue. Made from Swanline’s well known water resistant Cygnus© Eco material.

The award recognizes the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation in the e-commerce sector. The judges were impressed by the ingenuity of the design, as well as its positive impact on the environment. According to Nick Kirby, CEO of Swanline, “We are thrilled to have won the Sustainable Innovation Award for our EzeE-Comm Box. This award is a testament to our commitment to developing sustainable solutions for the packaging industry.”

The Paper Industry Gold Awards recognized success across five categories, including recycling, community engagement, health and safety, skills, and sustainable innovation. The event was hosted by Mark Pawsey MP, who chairs the APPG on Packaging, and attended by a number of parliamentarians from across the chamber.

The awards ceremony showcased the best of the paper-based industries in the UK, highlighting the achievements of the sector in boosting sustainability and increasing recycling rates, developing the skills of the workforce, and improving health and safety practices. The industry has a lot to be proud of, and the awards demonstrated the many remarkable individuals and businesses that do excellent work.

Andrew Large, CPI Director General, said, “These awards were a fantastic opportunity to recognize the best of the industry across the different sectors and celebrate their many achievements as well as a chance to network in wonderful surroundings. The awards showed that the industry has a lot to be proud of, and we were delighted to showcase this to senior politicians and stakeholders.”

The Sustainable Innovation Award recognizes the importance of developing sustainable solutions in the packaging industry. Swanline’s EzeE-Comm Box represents a significant step forward in this regard and is a testament to the company’s commitment to sustainability. As Nick Kirby notes, “We believe that sustainability is the future of the packaging industry, and we are proud to be leading the way in developing sustainable solutions that benefit both our clients and the environment.”
